For Grandparents
"Grandparents have great power. It is possible for us to connect with our grandchildren in a way that their parents cannot." |

The first section of the Search Institute's List of 40 Developmental Assets for Youth highlights the importance of family support and communication, not only with parents but also with extended family members who are caring adults. Here, we are pleased to share thoughts from our own William (Bo) Huhn, a member of our Executive Board, long time Guilford resident, and grandfather of twelve.
To keep in touch with three of his grandchildren that moved out of state, Bo sent them a daily story via U.S. mail. After writing for just a few days, he decided to send these letters to all twelve of his grandchildren. His idea quickly became a series of daily installments for 186 days running. Bo and his wife had embarked on a personal effort to provide their grandchildren with protective developmental tools. As they wrote in one of their holiday letters, "We consider our six life lessons to be our most important gift to you."
